Austin Party Train: So Long, Farewell

As you all probably figured out, the party train is no longer until work slows down or I speed up. If the latter happens my head might explode. This weekly newsletter has kind of replaced it although its not as events based. I send it out every Wednesday and is based around places and user reviews:

Here are the resources that I used to put the train together. Not a comprehensive list because of course, so many things are just one off emails or items that “came across my desk” but something to get you started:

Rare magazine
Hollys hot happenings

Funny stuff:

Here are some more groupon-esque deal sites:
Living Social:
The Lunch Deal:
eDeal Tickets:
365 Things to Do in Austin:
Morgan’s Deals:

Soon-to-be launching:
Buy With Me:
Deals in Austin:

I really loved doing the party train and if I get some time, I’ll resume. Sad not to be writing it any longer and communicating with you guys regularly, albeit through a mass email.  I’ll probably send you Yelp promotions, like Yelp Eats, our version of ARW: because they’re cool and fun. You can also find me on twitter @yelpaustin and @auspartytrain.

Reach out to me whenever – I still know what’s happening around town, only now its a function of my job 🙂

Yours in the ending of an era, or at least a blog,

Austin Party Train Goes Marchin’ In

Hello my little spring chickens —

I am hoping this weather is here to stay but I think that might be a tad unrealistic. The good news about working from home is that I get to enjoy the fab weather. The bad news is that I’m always 50 feet away from my bed and the urge to nap is a constant battle. However, I’m managing to power through that with diet cokes and an overwhelming amount of work. This week is one of the last before your life gets flipped upside down by that little music festival commonly referred to as SouthBy. So if you want to see some sweet peeps — Walt Wilkins, Bonnie Bishop, Glassjaw, Suzanna Choffel, Junior Brown, Gals Panic, Dropkick, State Radio, Patricia Vonne, Malford, Gals Panic, Gary Clark — then do it now.

Free and cheap:

  • Music Monday on Mashable: 10 free tunes and free alice in wonderland mp3 off amazon
  • 20% off everything in the couch outlet
  • has great half off gift certificates to, shoreline, judges hill, etc.

Austin Party Train: We’re baaaaaaaaaaaaaack

And we’re back folks.  It’s been a crazy couple of weeks but hoping this PT is now fully back on the tracks.  Johnny Cash tribute action, free food and drinks, guy forsyth, tegan and sara, terri hendrix, patrice pike, mickey and the motorcars and the generally tricky weather should keep you on your toes this weekend. Before we get into the nitty gritty, here’s some entertainment:

  • Browser based to do app, cleverly called TeuxDeux
  • Kind of like people of walmart… except like on regular streets n stuff: Poorly Dressed dot Com
  • Letters from a jerk. This guy takes it too far… and its hilarious: Craigslist is amazing
  • Live Avatar Role Playing. Paint yourself, frolic around the woods. Because thats normal: LARP
  • I wish I played… but even if i dont have the musical stylings, I can at least admire these geetars.
  • You’ve seen Selleck Waterfall Sandwich? Try this! Hint: It involves Bea Arthur

So now that we’re back, recommence sending me amazingness and I’ll make sure to get it in here. Twitter is @AusPartyTrain and I’m rebuilding the PT list since I can’t find the original.

Austin Party Train: Frontera Fest, Fashion Swaps and Free Dance

My magic 8 ball predicts you guys will be super busy this week!  Everything from the artsy fartsy 17th Annual Frontera Fest & Taste of Austin, to a totally cool modern homes tour and the spring home and garden show, sublime cover band BadFish, african drum workshop, champagne and cupcakes, free day of dance around town, fashion swaps, laser dance party, free bagels, free whatasize, whiskey tango tall boys, Seth Walker, Stoney Larue, BettySoo, etc.

I am doubting there will be a party train next week as I am travelling but we can always hope that between happy hours I’ll be able to send one.  Remember I am now AusPartyTrain on Twitter!
