Choo Choo: Hippies, Snobs & the rest of us

Short and sweet kids. Sorry for being such a slacker – but actually it turns out to be a good thing. There are SO many things this weekend that I would’ve gone insane trying to get TWTH in too. Also it would’ve been the longest email ever.

Check out the crazy hippies at eeyores, be snobby and drink wine in the hill country or do the ride for AIDS, watch unintelligible art films and pretend you know what the heck theyre about, leer at peepshow girls, gape at pizza eating contests, be moved by maya angelou, drink beer and listen to texas music, eat curry at the Indian cultural fair, be all contemporary at the fusebox festival… it’s a weekend full of endless delights. Have some freaking fun.

Before you do any of the above, another bacon themed website. Really people, I like bacon as much as the next red blooded flag waving American but this might be a overkill: http://www.geekologie.com/2009/04/dangerously_delicious_the_bak4.php.

Yours in Friday Fever,

Kelly

Reviews:

· T bird and the breaks: Awesome. I’ve seen them twice now and will definitely go see them again. Love them – great to dance to and the highest percentage of attractive males in a band I’ve seen in a while.

· Sanctuary: Overpriced, but what do you expect in Westlake? Cute gifty stuff.

· Kenobi: Guy was rolling sushi at the sanctuary party. We got to talking – surprise! – and he told me about their Monday madness with $2 rolls, $2 domestics & sakes (call and check). Michael says you should get the M&M roll too – something he and the other chef made up.

· Unplugged at the grove – This is great every year – even better that it starts at 8 pm. Take a chair, blanket and definitely get the nachos

· James McMurtry: He was solo, good background music but I wasn’t particularly inspired. I was also drinking beer and talking so maybe if I paid more attention…

· Nordstroms Bistro: What a surprising find! I had the best sandwich of my life in that joint. Rosemary chicken delight. Run, don’t walk.

· Avenue Q: full on puppet $ex. I’m not kidding. I was totally shocked. It was hilarious.

· Donn’s Depot: Can you go wrong with red shag carpet, an audience of 25 – 65 year olds and lots of dancing? I actually heard “cupid draw back your bow” here. schweet.

· Polvos: Fajitas are really delicious, try the guajillo chili kind

· Maudie’s: ate breakfast there the other day. Breakfast was good, salsa is burning hot death.

· Sazon: hear the food is good but we went for the margs. GET THEM. Lima margaritas, no sweet and sour nastiness

· PorterDavis: Great sound – really interesting drumming and an English harmonica player. Plus they played Bill Withers Use Me Up. I heart that song

· Saxon Pub: Small, crowded but they get great bands so who am I to complain? Drinks to knock you on your tookus

· Scholtz Garden: FREE Music Wednesdays! I hadnt been there – german + bbq = good.

· El Chile North: East side fave apparently moved north a year ago – who knew? Try their chilango. Spicy orange infused margarita

Recommendations from friends:

Amy: Go to Maria’s Taco Xpress on Sundays – great tacos, amazing music from Guy Forsyth and hippies! What more could u ask for?! Guy is really terrific!!!

James: Counter café has fabulous food and is a total Austin throwback
