Party Train: Big Names, Local Rockers & Fun Festivals

The early planner gets the best seat! Good thing I am getting the party train out Tuesday this week 🙂 Here’s hopin’ this rain clears up so we can have some fun! (Yes, homeowners, I realize I’ve just uttered some form of “I don’t want to water” blasphemy.)

Lots of big names around – cake, black kids, mates of state, George Clinton, Patty Griffin, Gaslight Anthem, Oh No! Oh My!, death cab, ra ra riot to name a few. You have your choice of those guys or the locals.

Two things: I’ve made a list of local bands I’d like to see to ensure I’m rounding out my musical education. Also, if you’re all “outdoorsy”, I’ve decided that every Sunday I’ll be checking out a local natural attraction. Hamilton Pool, Enchanted rock, etc. If there is a group I need to add, or a mountain I need to climb, email me.

Yours in seriously frizzed out hair,

Free Stuff:

· FREE YOGA: free, outdoor yoga classes at Barton Springs on Saturdays in May from 10-11:30AM. All ages and abilities are welcome. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring your yoga mat and sun screen. The classes will be held just outside the south entrance to Barton Springs on Robert E Lee, under the pecan trees.

· FREE PICTURES: Several services offer free photo prints to new customers who sign up. Like, offers new customers 600 4×6″ and 600 5×7″ prints (1,200 total) for free. See bottom of email/blog for complete list.

Fun sites:

· Track all your food and exercise. Creates a “mysparkpage” where you can have friends and leave comments and change your status. No, we don’t need another facebook type app but it is a good utility to stay healthy.

· Ok so this might be a pot and kettle situation but this person has way too much time.

· Body Mechanic: hour long massages, $25 each. Can you beat it?

· Lake Austin Boat Trip: if you’re planning a party, this is pretty fun. Shorter and smaller than the lake travis ones. You can cater in food and there is an actual bar and table set up inside.

· Counter Café: Food = Amazing & Service = Fast. The drawback is that it’s tiny. Still worth a Sunday morning trip – wait was only 15 minutes

· The Soloist: More of a social commentary than what I thought but still a good flick. Not sure if it gains anything by being big screen. Probably a renter

· Galaxy Café: I had a turkey and brie sammich. Nuff said. (oh and mac and cheese is to die for. Seriously)

To Check Out:

· Perry’s 30th anniv: Cheaper prices on their (apparently) delicious food:

· $30 off your meal at Benihana on your birthday. They’ll check ID:

  • · El Arroyo Happy Hour: Mondays 2 for 1 burgers, $1 tecates, Thursdays 99 cent margaritas, 2-6 pm, Sat and Sun: Brunch 1-3 pm, tex mex bloody marys

· Free queso at Chuy’s happy hour: 4-7 pm
