Party Train: Folk Music, Wine Festivals & Free Lone Star (tonight)

Hi my darlings –

A little party train pre-vacation. For those of you headed out of town, have a safe trip. For those of you staying in town, lots of things to enjoy on your staycation. First, let’s discuss a couple of disturbing things I’ve run across.

· Disgusting and strangely intriguing… Mermaids Hot Tub Rental (by the HOUR). I guess this is for when you can’t sneak into an apartment complex and break the glass rule and lie to the security guard about which apt you live in. Oh also when you want to instantly contract a VD.

· I think this has been on the PT before, but bears repeating, Clothing Optional Yoga. Really? I have been in enough yoga classes to know that the people that are IN the classes are there for a reason.

· Lastly, Pfizer Inc. says it will provide 70 of its most widely prescribed prescription drugs including Viagra for free to people who have lost their jobs and health insurance. I got nothing.

Have a fabulous memorial day weekend. Remember the reason for it:

Kelly “the night’s still young, have another round” Stocker

Free and Cheap:

· Celebrate National Penny Day on May 23! Buy a dozed original glazed for just $0.99 at participating Krispy Kremes

· Habitat Homestore: (Thanks Manny) It’s a donation center for home construction goods. When Habitat does a tear down of an old house, they ship all of the usable stuff to the restore for resell. All kinds of good old stuff there.

· Coupon: 20% off

· Free lettuce wraps with any entrée at PF Changs:

· Mp3s galore at paste magazine. Theyre running a fundraising campaign. Donate what you can… get 100+ rare mp3s. Pretty sweet magazine: The Decemberists , Neko Case , She & Him, Cowboy Junkies , Of Montreal, Indigo Girls , Jayhawks, etc.

· 20% off at half price books, whole store, this weekend:

· Deals Site:

Weekend Festival Whatnot:

· Austin Wine Festival at The Domain 1-10:30pm, Prices Available Online

· Kerrville Folk Festival May 23rd $ 24th:

· Chaos in Tejas: at several Red River venues including Beerland, Emo’s and The Mohawk. Get your fill of punk, hardcore and garage bands tonight through Sunday

Cheese Incident: So I had a tub of ricotta in my fridge leftover from a lasagna experiment. What to do? All the recipes below are easy and impressive for company. Even boys can make them 🙂

· Raspberry Ricotta pancakes: Mix up some batter, add half cup of ricotta, frozen berries. Cook and serve with a warmed up mix of half honey, half sugar water.

· Ricotta wraps: Flatbread, ricotta, grilled spiced or balsamic veggies. Smear it, wrap it, love it

· Ricotta pizza: wheat pizza, ricotta, low fat mozz, roast tomatoes, roast garlic, add spinach, add turkey sausage. Roast the tomatoes and garlic together for some good flavorshare, then mix the garlic with the ricotta. Spread, add veggies on top, cover with mozz. Bake at 400 for like 12 minutes or until chz is melty

To check out and report back:

· Tony’s Chicken and Waffles

· Red Shed Tavern:

· Yes the backyard is gone but Tim’s Porch is not…

· Max’s Wine Dive: Fried Chicken and a nice pinot gri? Sweeet

· Cocina de consuelo: Tiny place, Huge Delicious Tacos. Did i mention Delicious? I’ve been assured their other breakfast is as good

· Hem denim bar: Gin and Tonics and just-right-fittin-jeans. Not cheap, but when you can get a pair to wear forever, its so worth it

· Rio Rita: continues to be awesome. $12 bottle of champagne, electronic battleship, couches, hipster weddings, awesome margaritas, east siiiiiiiiiiide

· Angels and demons: Still not very engaging. Is it because I’ve read the book? I don’t know. I did discovery the luxury of the couches in the back of the theater. Makes pouring rum into your drink that much more hideable and comfortable

· Coupland dance hall: if its not on “the list” it should be. Old dance hall, uneven wooden floors, featured in country music vids. And try the restaurant – everything was AMAZING including the cobbler

· Playland skate center: Relive glory days of yore. Mirrored disco skate hanging from ceiling, michael Jackson tuneage, skate mafia in the middle breakdancing. Its $7 and a hell of a lot of entertainment (and exercise!). For bonus points, wear short shorts, headbands and tall socks.

· Kellys revenge: 4.99 cabernet at mi tiendita. I had to include – I’m bringing it to every wine and cheese party.

· Cranium WOW: Really is wow. Totally fun. Now on the list with uno and catchphrase. And NOT apples to apples. Worst game ever.
